Tiger roars
with new Edinburgh hotel lettings
Hoteliers
are continuing their assault on the booming Edinburgh
tourism market, with two more leading brands checking into
the city.
Intercontinental Hotels Group and Travelodge have both this
weekend signed agreements to operate hotels at Tiger
Developments' £200m redevelopment of the former Morrison
Street Goods Yard site in Haymarket (pictured).
InterContinental will open a 160-bedroom, four-star Crowne
Plaza hotel at the front of the 4-acre site; Travelodge will
manage a 200-bedroom budget hotel.
The details
follow the signing of luxury hotelier Sofitel at Manish
Chande's and Martin Myers' £300m Caltongate scheme in
Edinburgh 's old town in February.
The
Haymarket, which will also feature 335,000 sq ft of offices,
is one of the last major gap sites in central Edinburgh. It
is strategically important because of its proximity to the
city's Exchange financial district.
Edinburgh
architects Richard Murphy, CDA and Sutherland Hussey have
been appointed to draw up designs for the project.
A planning
scheme will be submitted in June, with completion scheduled
for 2012. |
